Hello
everyone! Is spring here yet?
What a winter we had in Maine- If it wasn’t snowing it was soooo cold
you didn’t want to go anywhere. It
is time again to think of a spring luncheon.
This year we will meet at the Yankee Café (formerly known as Tony
Roma’s) on Route One. It will be
Saturday, May 3rd at 1130 – 2:00pm.
Our guest
speaker will be Deanna Richardson, Administrative Assistant at Park Danforth.
Her topic will be Retirement Living in Maine.
Is
April Special?
April
is National Humor month. According
to the According to the American Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor,
children laugh about 300 times a day, while adults chuckle about 15 times a day.
Men laugh louder and longer than women do.
Studies show that frequent laughter helps control pain, lowers blood
pressure, and relieves stress. So
lets all laugh a little more each day.
On
the Move
Once
again winter brought travel.
Shirley
Wagner spent the winter with her niece and nephew in New Hampshire.

She worked hard last summer and fall helping her daughter move.

sun.

Retirement
After
what seemed to be 100 years of employment, Ginny Souviney has retired from the
switchboard. We wish her good
health in the coming years.
Condolences
We
wish to send out our condolences to the families of Carol Marshall and Lou Kyle.
Carol was a nurse on 1A and 2N and went to work in Oncology at MMC during the
merger. Carol was the first nurse
at Brighton to become a certified oncology nurse.
Lou
Kyle, husband of Priscilla, worked many years at OHM. He was a
surgical tech in the OR and then managed the switchboard for many years.
Carol and Kyle will be missed.
Brighton
Surgical Center to Move
Many
of you may know that the Brighton Surgical Center will be moving to Scarborough.
When? After all the
decisions are made! At the present
time, there are two options that are being considered.
Option one is for all of the services (surgery, central sterile, vascular
access, paincare and endoscopy) to move. As
the program development progressed, another option was identified.
Option two would move surgery and central sterile, leaving the remaining
of the departments at Brighton. We
are all waiting for the final decision. In
either case, the culture of Brighton will live on.
It is not the building that has given such good care but the people and
no matter where we are that will never change.
What
happens at Brighton when the departments move?
New England Rehabilitation continues to grow and is always looking for
more space.
American
Red Cross
Sharon
Bagalio spoke to the group at our fall meeting on the American Red Cross and
Disaster Health Services (DHS). For
those who were unable to attend, we thought it would be of interest to many of
you if we just gave a brief synopsis of her presentation.
Disaster Health Services provides emergency and preventative health serves to those affected by disaster. Volunteers are nurses and other health professionals who are assigned responsibilities based on their professional knowledge and experience.
It
is not a clinical specialty but encompasses all clinical specialties within the
field of nursing. All disaster
workers are required to Introduction to Disaster Services (DHS1).
The curriculum prepares workers to serve on local disasters.
The DHS II training prepares them to work on national relief operations.
The
Red Cross is in need of volunteers. If
you have any interest feel free to call Sharon for more information.
As a Community orientated health club, we have decided to help sponsor
this activity. We donated $250 to
help with the education of these most valuable
volunteers.
LUNCHEON- Don’t forget-May 3rd.
If you would
like to attend but need a ride, call one of the officers and we will try and
arrange transportation for you.
