SYMPATHY to the families of Alice Nelson-Portland, Dr. Albert Henry Rothrock-Gorham; Ethel Osgood-Cornish; Martha Sherman-Belleview, FL; Carol Farwell-Portland; and Eloise Jasper whose mother passed away recently. We extend our condolences to our former osteopathic family.

NEWS from Ella Couch: T. Sue Smith is a grandmother we learned at the Christmas party at The Governors .... Rita O'Brien has had thyroid tests .... Sue Crockett is recovering from an illness, as is Ginny Farr .... Kathie (Orr) Giering who lives in Boston says hello to all and hopes someday to be back in Maine and see everyone on a regular basis .... A note from Sandy Richards in Royal Palm Beach, Florida wishes everyone a Happy New Year and love to all. They were very fortunate to only have fruit tree damage from the hurricanes. They did evacuate and spent 8 days in Atlanta, Georgia for Hurricane Francis and 4 days at Fort Myers Beach for Hurricane Jeanne. The Royal Palm area sustained a lot of roof damage and tree damage. We express sympathy to her and her family in the loss of her father last May and also a brother-in-law in June ... Dr. Milton Redliltz sends best wishes from Ocala, FL (the Florida horse country) where he and Elaine now reside. They are "in reasonable shape" and visit their son in Connecticut and a daughter in Virginia, but still miss the coastal breeze and changing seasons of Maine....Happy belated Anniversary-wishes to Nola Chaisson and her husband Joseph who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on November 6, 2004. She is an RN and worked at BMC for twenty years    .... Irene Kosky and Tony are spending the winter in Florida ... Arline Wilkinson lives in Orlando, FL with her daughter and sends regards.... Thelma Douglas sends her love and best to all .... Dr. William Bergen and wife, Mary, along with his son Joe (an Osteopathic Physician, Assistant Director of the Emergency Department at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA) and wife Marcia (a DO anesthesiologist) were going to be in the country of Guatemala in January joining a medical mission sponsored by DOCARE (DO care) to bring medical care to the native population of that country (and others in the third world). Bill and Mary now live in Presque Isle and have been back in Maine after their five-year stint in Alaska for about eight years. He continues to work two days a week for The Aroostook Medical Center "only when we can't be on our sailboat on which we live from June until October." Bill still tells people that the only reason Joe survived his salmonella infection as an infant (from age 7 months till 10 months) was because of the magnificent personal nursing care Joe received on the Peds wing at OHM. His oldest son is practicing law in Kennebunk; Sean is a fish broker in Boston; Billy is a CIO of a successful software company in Framingham and Jayne just graduated in May from UMO and is working full time in Senator Collins' office in Washington, DC.

FUTURE MEETINGS: Do you have any ideas for a program, an outing or what-have-you in the future? We, your officers, would like to hear from you. Please call any of the officers or write to your editor who would be Happy to forward it to them.

A SHORT STORY: Dr. Pettapiece usually told me a story when I was at his home and this one is about an older man who bought a car and he had never had a license to drive before this and people were rather reluctant to ride with him. Eventually a friend was feeling sorry for the new driver and decided to accompany him on one occasion. When asked whether or not he was nervous, he replied well when he got her up to 50 I was singing 'Abide With Me'. When he got her up to 70 I sang 'Nearer My God to Thee', and when he got her up to 90 I sang 'Lord I'm Coming Home’.
